who we are

We are a group fitness and yoga studio with the goal to educate, motivate, and empower so that our clients can take on both physical and mental challenges in their daily lives. We want to keep people moving, living, and enjoying life.

Expect to have fun, laugh, and leave class feeling energized and sweaty. It doesn’t matter if you have never worked out before or are just ready to take it to the next level. At Coast Fitness, we will help you get where you want to go.

Our classes are varied, and we do our best to give our clients a wide range of options, including cardiovascular training, weight training, heavy lifting, core training, and a variety of yoga classes from hot to hatha.

Through our online booking system you can create your own profile, view our current schedule of classes, buy passes, and sign up online from anywhere. Download our app, WellnessLiving Achieve, and keep track of your fitness on the go.

We also offer all new clients a one month unlimited pass for $75.

Meet The Team

Debbie Duyvesteyn

BCRPA Advanced Group Fitness Instructor, SFL

Before becoming a trainer I was constantly looking for that “thing” that would challenge and change me. Nervously I joined a motivating and successful bootcamp. After a year of participating I realized that fitness was my true passion, and I knew I wanted to pursue it as a career.Who am I? I am a mother of two and a wife to an avid farmer. I usually find comfort in running, biking, snowboarding and weight training. I love to find adventure on my own two feet during a long hike through the trails of Powell River or a dive in the blue ocean waters around the world. I get excited to challenge myself in group classes, especially when it comes to conditioning. I can’t resist chocolate and I am committed to training. I understand the hard work, dedication and focus on nutrition that it takes to get the results you want. I am inspired by those who leave their comfort zone to challenge themselves and reach new goals.

Melissa Sloos

Fitness for me is all about the long term health of our bodies and our minds. Exercise keeps our brains and bodies challenged, so we can keep our strength through our whole lives. My goal is to encourage people to enjoy the fight for fit, and to embrace fitness as a way of life so they can continue to feel healthy and happy, body and mind, at every age. If you're still moving, they can't bury you!

I love finding out what clients' goals are, and helping them get there. It is a privilege to be a part of someone's journey, and to play a part in their success. I am always here to help, support, challenge, and listen.

I have always had a love for health and fitness, wanting to take it to the next level by becoming certified to teach and helping people reach their fitness goals. While on maternity leave for the 3rd time, I started working on my certification and became a BCRPA registered Group Fitness Instructor!I am married and we have 3 wonderful little boys making for a busy but fulfilling life. We enjoy lots of outdoor activities together. Staying fit is important for me to keep up with them.Every time I get in front of a class I definitely feel like this was the right choice. I love what I do and I am very passionate about what I teach. I will continue to advance my knowledge with new courses and always improve my teaching skills. I look forward to working with the Coast Fitness team and growing as a fitness instructor.

Stephanie was born and raised in Powell River.She has always felt a close connection to the coast and living by the ocean. Exploring in nature, and around her beautiful community is something she enjoys doing on a daily basis.Living an active and healthy lifestyle focused on wellness; mentally, physically and spiritually is important in creating balance in life. Stephanie comes to her class with an open mind, and an open heart. The idea of connecting the breath with the body, and conscious movement is something she hopes to give in her classes."Honor your body and mind where they are in the present moment."

Jennifer Weaver

Hello, I'm Jennifer and I am excited to be working here at Coast Fitness, leading Yoga classes and contributing to your wellness.

My family moved to Powell River to raise our young son and to enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle near the sea. We are inspired by the natural beauty here and the kind people that make up this community.  I can often be found out hiking the trails with my son in the backpack and the family dog in tow. 

I'm a 200hr certified Yoga Instructor as well as a certified Shiatsu Therapist.  Additionally, I also support students in the school system as an Education Assistant. 

My intention is to work with people where they are at, provide support where needed to enhance their current experience and assist to achieve new goals. 

Those who are new to yoga will find my classes inviting and fun and the experienced yogi will find new depth also. I look forward to meeting you in class!

Education: 200HR Yoga Teacher Training

I am passionate about movement, body mechanics, being body aware and have spent my life deepening my knowledge in this field. My movement journey began in 1998 when I went to England to dance. In 2003 I graduated from a 3-year full-time contemporary dance program in Vancouver and spent the next 15 years training and performing my own work meshing contemporary dance and aerial circus arts worldwide. In 2009, I completed 500 hours of yoga teacher training involving yin yoga, restorative yoga, laughter yoga, hatha yoga and pranayama. In 2014/2015 I took six months of intensive solo and tandem platform diving to learn various rotations, key body positions and precision timing.

 

Over the years I have had the pleasure of developing the aerial curriculum for two circus schools, creating strength and flexibility training programs for competitive figure skaters as well as teaching aerial and ground based partner acro workshops in a variety of countries. 

 

I draw on all my forms of training when I teach so my exercises are quite often unconventional.  It’s my joy and mission to help people develop deep stabilizing strength, gain greater flexibility and encourage a sense of play while moving. I am inspired by the people in my classes and learn new things every time I teach. I look forward to teaching and taking classes at Coast Fitness with all of you!

Sydney Wightman

Fitness and sports have always been an integral part of my lifestyle, from playing competitive sports in high school to running half marathons and weight training during my five years at University.After completing my education degree at Simon Fraser University, I realized I wanted to further my knowledge in the fitness industry by becoming a BCRPA certified Group Fitness Instructor. In addition, I am currently working towards BCRPA Personal Trainer certification.My aim in every class is to motivate and encourage all participants to challenge themselves in their fitness and health goals in a safe and welcoming environment.

I have an extensive background in Yoga, both teaching and my personal practice. My passion lies in helping students develop their own self-awareness, and a deep sense of self-compassion, because this opens the up the realm of possibility, choice and change.It is always my hope to engage students to reach for their full potential. My approach is simple, clear, powerful and playful. With over ten years of teaching experience, I revere and embrace the beauty of our refinement and growth.

Throughout my life I have always had a strong interest in fitness, and been very involved in taking classes. Six years ago I became a BCRPA certified Group Fitness instructor, and began teaching a variety of different classes. I have always loved the loud music, the motivation, and the variety of group fitness classes.My focus is to challenge and motivate my students to do their best and feel great about what they have accomplished. Fitness and health is a life long commitment, and I continue to take courses that will help me to become a better instructor and motivator.
